Short Biography: 

John Icely (JI) is the managing director of Sagremarisco Lda and is also a principle researcher with the Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA) at the University of Algarve. JI has been involved in various capacities from sub-contractor to partner in nine EU projects and is the Principle Investigator (PI) for the MERIS Validation Team (MVT) operating out of Sagres.

Sagremarisco - Viveiros de Marisco Lda (SGM)

Sagremarisco Lda  is located  at Sagres on the extreme SW of the Iberian  peninsular. The company operates at the interface between industry, education and scientific research.   
Industry:  technical support for the local aquaculture industry and fishing fleet; also, provides facilities for marine trials of materials under development for maritime use.
Education: provides equipment and human resources for coastal field studies by both local and foreign universities, and other educational institutions.

Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA)

By nature, CIMA a multi­disciplinary unit that explores the connections between environments, processes and human populations using scientific methods coupled with state­of­the­art modelling techniques. Apart from research, CIMA places a strong emphasis on training and education, as well as providing consultation services, digital applications and scientific information to the scientific and public domains. CIMA activity is focused on 3 general aims: 1. scientific research; 2. training at Masters and PhD level and 3.

University of Algarve

The University of Algarve UALG is a public higher education institution located in the southern part of Portugal. In the academic year of 2012­2013 there were circa 8.046 students of which 1205 were enrolled in postgraduate programs. The University’s core research and teaching areas are: science and technology, management and economy, earth and marine sciences, social sciences and more recently health. UALG hosts the principal research unit, the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA)
